MATERIALS
Making use of available materials has been important to us from the get-go. We like finding creative uses for things that would otherwise be discarded and integrating them into our projects in interesting ways. You could say we think the raw stuff is beautiful. STRUCT/RESTRUCT has partnered with the City of Lawrence and with local tree services to save cut trees and logs from the landfill. Using our sawmill, we rip the raw material into boards for building projects, siding, flooring, furniture, cabinetry, and more.
We also incorporate salvaged materials into our design process. We repurpose metal roofing, signs, slate, structural wood, concrete roof tiling, antique doors, hardwood trim, hardware, fixtures, and more. Some of the photos below show us taking down a barn outside Topeka. We collected trailer loads of wood and metal that we have turned into siding and roofing material on our 927 Delaware project. We have also turned bleacher seating into flooring for that project.
